#Cross -> Protesters Demand President Kabila To Step Down

Protesters in the DRC’s capital, Kinshasa, are demanding President Joseph Kabila steps down. Kabila’s second term in office expires on Monday at midnight however allies say he plans to stay longer under a deal with some of his political rivals to delay an election until April 2018. The government and elections officials say the ballot must be delayed until April 2018 because of logistical and financial problems. The government has blocked most social media and outlawed protests in Kinshasa, raising fears of more violence in a nation that has been plagued by war and instability for two decades.
